Quick Money Online – How To Monetize A Blog

Blogging is becoming widely known as one of the best ways for the ordinary Internet user to make easy money online. Its benefits are many: technical web design knowledge is not a must, you can write about any subject that you like, and there’s no need to spend any money up front. With nothing more than your time and perserverance, I can walk you one step at a time through the process of creating and monetizing your very own blog.

Step 1
The quickest way to get started is with a free blog host — Blogetery (wordpress platform), Blogger, and BlogSpot are all fantastic choices. I personally use a self-hosted copy of WordPress because it’s highly customizable via plugins, there are lots of free themes available to download, and the CMS (Content Management System) just makes the whole thing simpler than a regular web site.

Simply head over to the blog host of your choosing and sign up for a free account. They all ask for a valid email address, but don’t worry – these are reputable sites, they won’t cause you to get spammed.

Step 2
The theory behind quick money making with blogging is to design the blog based around a series of keywords that are both profitable and well-trafficked. (“Keywords” are what people type into search engines like Google.) Pick out 5 – 10 keywords related to any topic that you find interesting – avoid common terms like “money” or “blog.” Instead, think of a string of 3 – 4 words, like “how to get money” or “how to monetize a blog.”

Once you’ve got your keywords, run them through Google’s Keyword Tool to find keywords with a CPC (Cost per Click) of >=$1 and more than 3,000 searches a month.

Don’t get worried if your original keywords don’t measure up; the keyword tool gives you suggestions and similar keywords to research. Keep researching until you’ve got half a dozen good ones.

Step 3
This is where you can get creative. Now you add content to your blog, which mostly consists of writing articles. Write a unique article for every one of your keywords (they don’t have to be exhaustive, 400 – 750 words) – these will be individual posts on your blog. When writing, make sure to:

A) Use the keyword in the title,
B) Incorporate the keyword naturally into the text 3 or 4 times.
C) Write your articles based around some cetral subject or topic, and
D) Create links from each article to the other articles you’ve written.

This ensure your pages perform better in the search engines. Make sure your articles are informative, well-written and use correct grammar and punctuation. Feel free to add related pictures, videos and other media as well. Don’t publish them just yet however.

Step 4
Most people are in all likelyhood wondering by now, “Where does the money making factor into all this?” The answer to that question is two words: Google Adsense.

Adsense is a website that enables you to display sponsored block of ads on your blog, and get paid a small sum every time someone clicks on one. (This is where the high CPC comes into play.)

Head over to the Adsense website, sign up for a free account, create a new ad, and paste the code into your blog. Making money with your blog can be as simple as this. You can have up to three ad units per page.

Step 5
You’ve created your blog, you’ve got your advertisements, so it’s time to publish your articles. You don’t want to publish them all at the same time then never touch the site again, it doesn’t look realistic. I recommend posting one article every other day or three (WordPress has a great feature to automate this.) Once you’ve published all your keyword targeted articles, it’s in your hands how often you wait between posts.

The final variable of this easy[spin] [spin]money making equation is incidentally getting people to view your blog so they can click on the Adsense, the specifics of which are beyond the scope of this article. Your blog can be promoted almost anywhere you’re active online: MySpace, Facebook, Twitter, bookmarking sites like Delicious, forums, comments on other blogs, Yahoo profiles, email signatures – this is where creative thinking comes in handy.

Don’t forget, the more unique, beneficial and captivating your articles are, the more your readers will link to them and the more popular they’ll become. It’s as easy to promote three or four blogs as it is to promote one, so don’t hesitate to synergize your efforts. Having multiple streams of quick easy money is definitely a fantastic thing!
