Have you ever come across sales pages where you get the feeling the site owner is simply trying to bluster his way into your pockets? These tend to use big words and flowery language to get you to believe in their products. More often than not, people can sense the underlying desperation of a person who neither believes in nor actually knows what he is trying to sell.
So why then is it so important to know what you are selling? Well, there are dozens and dozens of reasons ranging from ethics to crunching numbers, but here are just three practical ones to help guide you to finding your own answers:
1. Credibility – People tend to take advice either from figures of authority or experts in the field. If you truly know your stuff, then you can communicate with your prospective customers in a confident and passionate manner. People are drawn to sincere and reliable service. Come across as a person who is knowledgeable in his field and few will doubt the benefits of your product.
2. Publicity – When visitors to your site leave with a good impression, there is the increased chance of them either returning at a later time, or spreading the word to their friends whom they think may be interested in what you offer. Surely we need not discuss the importance of traffic flow to your site! People who are very interested in your niche area would probably browse through multiple sites in one sitting, and should your site catch their eye with its impressive repertoire of information, they just might mention it on forums or blogs. This is free publicity!
3. Content Generation – The main selling point of most Internet Marketing sites is information. Thus the information sitting in your head is your very own money-making machine. The whole idea here is that you know something of value that many other people do not; that is why they should listen to you. Being able to create original content based on your knowledge and experiences is crucial to employing advanced tactics to draw more prospective customers to your site.
Look at things from a potential customer’s point of view, and it all becomes clear. Would you buy anything from a sales promoter who doesn’t know nuts about the product he is selling? Of course not!Make it known that you really are familiar and experienced in that niche area with a strong set of basic knowledge on the subject. The best way to enrich your site content is of course to do your own research. Do take note that the key is more breadth than depth. Read widely on anything and everything related to your product. It is always good to gain valuable insights from more than one source.
Google search engine is a gold mine of knowledge! Wikipedia can also provide a ton of information on almost anything. And if you truly are committed to making your site work, then go to the nearest library or bookstore and find books related to your niche.
Here’s a problem many people run into when doing research – information overload. Don’t get discouraged; it happens to everyone. The amount of information available on the web can get overwhelming. This is the point where most people decide that all this is just too much work and give up. Your mind will naturally tell you that it cannot process everything at once. What you need to do is to be selective and organize your research material. This is a very important phase and you must be able to concentrate. Try to keep the excess material out of sight so you are less likely to lose your focus. It gets better once you are past the initial stages of shock. Trust me, I went through this too!
So please, do your homework. Constantly update yourself as well as your site with the latest news on your niche area so that you display professionalism and build a credible reputation for your business!
